
How I Got Here
A little over 10 years ago, I was hired at a small wine bar in Santa Barbara called Les Marchands. At the time, my hospitality experience was from bouncing around different restaurants, bartending or serving, and usually at dives. I’m still not sure why they hired me at Les Marchands, but I’m really glad they did.
I was introduced to the greats from France and Italy. I learned that it was just as important to find new and exciting wines from smaller producers from all over the world.
It was a warm, simple shop with no frills. It was inviting, and the team and our guests just wanted to drink something delicious — known or new. I can’t believe how lucky I was. Les Marchands was a magical place, and I still miss it.
I started La Gentillesse Wines because I want to recreate that feeling. I don’t have a storefront, but I’m here to offer everything that Les Marchands had to offer.
